Air quality is currently a significant threat to our health. Although there are various contributing reasons, agriculture for mass consumption has a tremendous environmental impact, which translates to air pollution. According to my research, one of the underlying reasons for the high environmental impact of agriculture is the governmental incentive for overproduction. This simply means that we are abusing the environment by producing and consuming more than we actually need.
An essential part of the solution is to raise awareness about conscious consumption to allow people to take responsibility for what they consume. Coffee is known to be the most traceable cash crop, even superseding petroleum. Concerning the consumption amount, a vast amount of waste is generated during production and coffee consumption.
The aim of this design is to raise consumer awareness about food waste. On the other hand, the objective is to encourage start-ups to utilize coffee waste by providing a secure and consistent supply of raw material.
One of the main problems for start-ups utilizing food waste is the lack of a consistent and secure supply of contaminant-free grounds. Currently, these innovators collect their grounds door to door, from local coffee shops, which poses a threat to the quality of the grounds and the sustainability of the business.
The system transforms consumers' coffee grounds into resources for small scale innovators. Once the consumer starts collecting coffee grounds, the container's fill level is communicated to the Jugi Team for the distribution planning. Once the coffee grounds are brought to the facility, they are dried and processed, ready for the utilization of innovators.
The product family consists of 3 products:
Smart container for offices where coffee consumption is relatively high.
Reusable container for individual consumers.
Collection container so that individual consumers can deposit their containers at the drop off points.
