Injection-molded shoulder bag

Injection-molded shoulder bag
This bag was designed as an addition to the existing shoe collection with injection molded parts. This technique was well-received with the customers, so the brand decided to develop more products with similar design language.
Design
Taking inspiration from existing successful commercial shoes and applying it to new products. The design intent was cross-shoulder bag for women. We also explored construction of simple leather wallets.
Design development
The injection molded parts were fully built in CAD, and the shoulder strap came with adjustable length. Magnetic closures were hidden under the leather strap, and the flap itself was thinned to bend in a certain area.
Details
The interior compartment was removed from the mold to simplify the production. Small marks were added to the mold for the straps attachment.
Injection mold
Several rounds of design changes were made to improve the detailing and make sure the material was evenly distributed throughout the molded areas. Also making sure the injection gates and parting lines were as small as possible to be easy to clean up in post-production.
Strap and closure
Black leather with painted edges was attached to the injection molded body, and a studded over-the-lid strap with magnetic snap closure was added.
Colors tests
Hydrographic printing and chroming was tested on the final injections. While testing, lower grade chroming was cracking on the bends, and the technique was improved for more durability.
Production
Small batch of production was tested in two color versions and detailing. One with leather strap - linked to the original design of the shoe and one more minimal with simple logo-magnetic closure and marble textured print.
