Recently I've had an opportunity of illustrating a cover for horror stories collection by Alex Wolfgang.

I've started arranging the composition on a miniature scale, so the rough ink sketches guided further direction for this cover. Decided to ink the face first in order to locate all the elements in their planned destination, as I aspired to make the portrait less conventional by breaking the fourth wall a bit. Background rendering came shortly after. Once I've had general highlights and shadows positioned, I moved to tweaking necessary areas and proceeded to further detail work.
Once the piece got scanned - I combined it with separately prepared lettering.
